Japanese people don’t only pay attention to the visual aspect of their bento, they also care about how their pastries look like.
Wagashi are japanese traditionnal pastries. Contrary to France, they are not a gastronomic symbol of Japan. They are made of celebrations and festivites, like the Tea Ceremony. Japanese people love their savoury taste.
Contrairy to Western pastries, Wagashi are low in fat and calories.
They are mainly made of natural ingredients such as red and white Azuki beans, green soya or soya powder, sticky rice, rice and wheat floor, sweet potato, fruits, chestnuts, agar-agar, sesame and sugar.
Those ingredients are rich in vegetal fibers, vitamins and proteins. Wagashi are well-balanced because of those pastries.
