5 TIPS TO REDUCE FOOD WASTE… by giving them a second chance!

According to Planetoscope, the amount of waste thrown away every year in the world is between 3400 and 4000 billion tons; and according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 1,3 billion would be food waste. To participate at our own level in decreasing these figures, we recently revealed to you our precious anti-waste advices. But as we know well most waste remains in the kitchen, here are our tips to give them a second chance and make your bins lighter!

1)      Use coffee grounds as a natural fertilizer

You may not know but the residue of your breakfast favourite drink is the best friend of your plants! Rich in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, it becomes a perfect fertilizer when it is mixed to the soil of your green plants or spread in the garden. That’s not all, it is also well-known to be a good insects repulsive.

2)      Germinate fruits kernels to grow beautiful plants

Many fruit stones can grow into very nice house plants to decorate your rooms. Avocado, litchee or date, put them aside and make them germinate. With patience and care, the first sprouts should soon appear! 

3)      Weed the aisles with the potatoes cooking water

A bunch of weeds has appeared in your aisle pavement? No problem! Plan in your week menus your amazing mashed potatoes recipe, keep the cooking water and pour it, once cooled, over the weeds. Full of minerals, it will help you to destroy them.

4)      Light the fireplace with shells of dried fruits

No more throwing the shells of the walnuts, hazelnuts, pistachios and other dried fruits we love to eat in front of the TV. Let them go up into smoke! These are excellent wood fuels and will efficiently replace the usual fire starter gel!

5)      Flavour your plate with the citrus zests

Before pressing the citrus fruits for your fresh juice, think of taking the zests. Full of flavours, they will be your best allies to spice up your dishes and teas!
