From bento to photographism: focus on the birth of the MB Sushi art series

Today, we wanted to introduce to you a member of our team … or rather her work…

Trained as a graphic artist, Emilie Vasset is an artist bursting with talent and ideas: drawing, of course, with an approach focussing on the human and animal bodies, but also photography that often includes graphic intervention (a technique called photographism)… For her, anything can be used to create!

When she joined the monbento® team in late 2012, Emilie’s creativity was stimulated by this new environment with its touch of exoticism and freedom.

“At the time, the MB Original included a black elastic strap. Seeing this bento in its red version, I thought of the red ball used in a famous Japanese cartoon from the 2000s used to capture animals that were then trained to fight. The orange MB Original reminded me of salmon sushi.

I thought it would be fun to draw these interpretations in a minimalist style. In the end, the sushi theme seemed the most coherent to me, since it could be used for an entire serie related to the bento, the pleasure of eating and the Asian world”, explains Emilie.

And that’s how the red MB Original became MB Sushi red tuna, the orange MB Original, MB Sushi salmon, and the green MB Original, MB Sushi avocado.

Presented last year at Batofar in Paris during an event organised by Student Food (of which monbento® was a partner), this mouth-watering series now graces the walls of our offices!
