Talking about the origins of Easter, we can say that it was a Catholic holiday that marked the end of Lent and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Probably this isn’t news to you.
A lot of countries celebrate Easter by eating chocolate eggs. But where does this tradition come from?
The tradition of offering eggs exists since ancient times but Easter eggs were not always made from chocolate. Romans used to offer eggs to spiritual gods as a token of happiness and gratitude. Egyptians used to write vows in colors on their offering eggs.
During the 6th century, the Church prohibited eating eggs during Lent. All of the eggs were kept, decorated and eaten for Easter. The tradition remains today with chocolate eggs!
