DIY kids : a vegetable garden in eggshells

Are you looking for a fun and educational workshop to keep your kids busy this summer? We have what you need! A few nice eggshells, a bit of potting soil, some seeds and you have it all for a miniature vegetable garden

Little gardener’s equipment:

–          eggs or eggshells

–          light potting soil

–          some seeds of aromatic herbs as : parsley, chives, mint, basil, thyme

–          1 empty eggs box

–          1 teaspoon

–          1 marker

–          sticks as wooden spikes

–          labels

–          coloured pencil or felts

Step 1: remove carefully the top of the eggs (to help you break the eggshells more precisely, you can use a little spike).  Empty, wash and place the eggshells in the egg box to protect them.

Tip: to avoid waste, you can take this opportunity to cook a tasty omelette for your next meal ;-).

Step 2: delicately fill, each eggshell to about ¾ with potting soil.

Step 3:  sprinkle a few aromatic herb seeds in the eggshells and cover up with a thin layer of soil. Water slightly.

Step 4: to make this workshop more fun, draw a funny face on each egg with a marker to create little people.

Step 5: write down the name of each aromatic herb sown on little labels, place the labels on wooden spikes and plant each in corresponding eggshells, like flags.

And there you are! It is now time for your little gardener to watch patiently the seeds grow.

To give you an idea, the first shoots should show up around the end of the second week provided they are watered regularly. Meanwhile, do not hesitate to share your vegetable garden on our social networks!
