To celebrate our friend and partner’s new blog madeincupcake, I decided to make my very own cupcakes over the weekend !
As I knew very little about cupcakes when I started, I delved into Ludivine’s website… and found plenty of enthralling information about these cakes which seem to have seen the light in America. If you are eager to know more about these mouth-watering cakes click on the following link (in french) : http://www.madeincupcake.com/un-peu-dhistoire.
First step – the proper kitchen utensils :
I had a cake tin and a piping bag (the bag was a present from a member of the monbento team who wanted me to try a macaroon recipe :-).
I only had the minimum accessories for a first try – but I must say I would be very tempted to test out some of the marvels sold on Ludivine’s website next time : http://www.madeincupcake.com/boutique-accessoires-cupcake.
Next step – making the mixture.
I tried an all-chocolate recipe. Making the mixture was rather easy, even if I slightly modified the recipe by using less eggs and less sugar (we do love sweet things and rich food, but lets avoid stomach aches!)
When I took my cupcakes out of the oven they looked just like my beloved volcanoes ! (I’m a native of Auvergne – the French volcano region).
The toping :
That’s when the trouble started ! Whip the cream well ( you’re supposed to put the cream, bowl and whisk in the freezer for a while if I got it right) and learn to use the the piping bag. Results for a first try : whipped cream a little too soft and more mixture on my hands and on the working surface than in the bag…
However the final result is appetizing :
Ludivine promised the second try would be much easier!
That’s convenient! I’m invited to my first baby shower next week – nicely decorated cupcakes will be just perfect for the occasion !
