In Japan, Kurisumasu is quite similar to our Christmas… but there’s still some differences.

Yes, Japan isn’t a catholic country. They don’t celebrate the Christ’s birth contrary to western societies. Christmas in Japan is a profit-making day of celebration. Is it less significant for Japanese people and smaller than Christmas celebrations we all are used to.

Christmas in Japan is more like Valentine’s day. Christmas Eve is more a lover’s day. Japanses people like to go to restaurant, it is the perfect occasion to declare they love to somebody!

Santa Claus is also coming for Christmas. We can see him in the shop’s windows. Japanese people also love Christmas’ fairy lights. They like making house decorating contests.

Christmas remains a small day of celebration. New Year is much more significant and important in Japan. Stay tuned with monbento blog.
