Back to school experienced by parents

For the children, back to school is a WAOUH event: they catch-up with their school friends again, mums and dads have them dressed on their Sunday best, they’ve got them brand new school bags, with the matching pencil case, the… STOP! We got it!

From the parents’ point of view, back to school time is something they’ve been thinking about even before the previous school year ended! Now that it’s over for 2015, we can admit it: it’s really been pressuring us!

Because this is how the real back to school looks like:

A FEW DAYS BEFORE

– The relooking is a must! Our budget has exploded! No more money, two days off work gone up in smoke but the kids are remodelled from head to trainers to look their smartest in the schoolyard!

– The terrible failure of our « let’s take good sleeping habits honey » resolution! Even if you tell your princesses and pirates to go to bed at 8 pm to get their strength back, they argue « But there’s no school tomorrow! ».

The crowded supermarkets combined with the on going background chorus of « No, I don’t want this one », « my brother has 3 copybooks, why don’t I only get 2 », « Please, please, please »…

THE D-DAY

The fear to be late! If you don’t mind driving your children after gates are closed on regular school days, on the first day back, no way! It’s a special day!

The tears! From the little ones of course, but also from the parents and from some teachers undergoing too many questions.

THE FOLLOWING DAYS

– The return of homeworks! A few days ago, late afternoons meant relaxing moments but now you pray for having a big project to finish at the office to come back home after THE WAR (Call a spade a spade!)

– The teacher supremacy! She’s the prettiest, the kindest, and she gets drawings without having to ask for and cherry on the cake she’s always right! « But MY teacher said that… » Grrr!

All this seems familiar to you? You even got a smile reading through. Great news: you’re a normal parent! Don’t change, don’t try to be perfect: facing all the daily worries, you are for your children a superhero!

Happy back to school time to all of you!
