Yesterday, I was watching Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away when I decided to try to make Onigiri by myself.
Onigiri is the Japanese version of the sandwich. It is a riceball with a nori seaweed. Unfortunately, Chihiro eat them without the seaweed.
I think it is quite rare that animation films make you hungry. That film totally worked.
To make salmon onigiri, you need :
- white rice
- soy sauce
- salmon (not so much)
- nori seaweeds
- sesam seeds
Ok, ok… I had some help. But in a way i’m proud of the result.
Rice cooker and frozen salmon are my friends… yes.
I putted a bit more watter than usually to cook the rice. I guess you should cook it longer if you’re using rice bags.
I’m still looking for the way to make rice without bag nor rice cooker ! Tell me if you know how to do it !
I cooked the salmon in the microwave (you may think that’s a crime, but it is really good). Cook it until it is baked but not totally, it has to be soft !
After that, crumble it and sprinkle it with 1 tsp of soy sauce. You can add some sesame seeds.
The serious part starts !
Put the seaweed in the onigiri mo(u)ld. Fill half of it with rice, put some salmon in the center and then rice again until the mo(u)ld is full.
Fold up the seaweed and close the mo(u)ld. Press ! And your onigiri is ready !
You just have to turn it out of the mo(u)ld !
Do it again, and again, and again… until there’s no more ingredients.
Bon appetit !
